Hi, I’m Isobel (if you didn’t know already).

I work primarily in brand & design strategy with a particular interest in how both physical and intangible touchpoints and experiences can bring brands and concepts to life in meaningful ways. I engage with a wide range of creative and intellectual practices and I am a believer that cross-disciplinary thinking, blending the creative and analytical, is the best way to approach just about any question that needs answering.

I specialise in food, drink, and hospitality, while always considering the wider cultural (and sub-cultural) influences that impact producers, consumer tastes, and how to create unique and impactful products, service experiences, and brand identities. My work with the industry is enriched by my personal interests as an avid cook, baker, and wine drinker, and having focused much of my academic work on the subjects. Between degrees I traveled the world as a Watson Fellow investigating the issues around and implications of local food movement ideas in different cultures and environments and I continue to be hands-on with food and wine in my London-based supper club.

The act of making and working by hand is something that is especially important to me as well. I am interested in understanding how things work, how they are made, and trying it out for myself - not to mention there is pure satisfaction out of seeing the results of the making process. For me the work of knitting, dressmaking, kneading dough, or even just making paper snowflakes is interconnected with the ability to think about how products and ideas come to life.

I attended Parsons School of Design before earning a BA in Sociology from Haverford College, and an MA in Material and Visual Culture from University College London where I wrote my thesis on the speciality coffee industry (another passion of mine!)

Originally from Seattle, I’m currently based in London, and previously spent time living in Iceland before making my way here.

As you might be able to tell, I don’t believe in pigeonholes or disciplinary boundaries. Scroll down to find collections of my various thinking, writing, and creative projects.

Feel free to get in touch (instagram & LinkedIn links above) with questions about working together or to chat about any and all of the above.
